Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, is Dead at 76
Woke up to the world mourning the passing of Aretha Franklin. Her seminal album, "I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You," came out the same year I did, and the connection never faded. My Detroit friends were extras in her "Freeway of Love" video and my ex saw her live at Radio City Music Hall -- she performed two songs then bitched out the band for not playing up to her standards and left(!) -- but sadly I never got that close to the legend. But like the rest of the world, she will forever be a part of me, her singular voice, style and attitude -- there will never be another. RIP.
